Michael Elsinga, A.Sc.T., P.Eng. Manager, Instrumentation and Process Control Systems Education:
Specialization:Mike is approaching 20 years of instrument and control system design for Pulp & Paper, Oil & Gas, and other heavy industries. He has managed his department in the successful completion of numerous DCS installations, instrument upgrades, and process optimizations. His department has been responsible for projects including P & ID development, control strategy design, wiring and loop connection diagrams, DCS configuration, construction supervision, system commissioning, process simulation, operator training and loop tuning. Process improvements have been realized using feed forward, cascade and auto-start sequence capabilities of DCS systems as well as variability reduction efforts. He is familiar with fuzzy-logic strategies as well as modern, advanced control strategies, and has successfully optimized a TMP mill operation using multivariate statistical analysis and design of experiment techniques. Mike has applied network models for the optimization of pulp digester and pulp machine operations. He also has experience designing safety interlock and emergency shutdown systems using PLCs, hard-wired relay logic and DCSs. His experience includes design of intrinsically safe and explosion-proof control systems for use in hazardous locations. Mike is a member of the Instrument, Systems and Automation Society, the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada. Mike has written and presented papers for IEEE and PAPTAC. He is registered as a member of the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia. |
